Detailed 1/48 scale model kit of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, a lightweight, carrier-based fighter aircraft employed by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service from 1940 to 1945. When the Zero was first introduced, it was the best carrier based fighter in the world and was universally feared by Allied pilots. The Zero was fast and incredibly maneuverable, and in the hands of a capable pilot, it could out dogfight any fighter of the era, as was demonstrated by the legendary Japanese fighter ace Saburo Sakai on June 24, 1944 when his Zero managed to elude a squadron of 15 U.S. Navy F6F Hellcats and returned to base almost untouched. Thanks to the evolution of new tactics and techniques, Allied pilots were able to hold their own against the nimble Zero. With the introduction of more advanced F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair later in the war, Allies finally have fighter aircrafts that could outclass the Zero in a turning dogfight. This 1/48 scale model kit depicts the A6M5 Type 0 Model 52 variant, which had modified non-folding wingtips and improved dive performance and roll-rate. This kit comes with marking for two different aircraft: 3D-126, Circle Insignia and 2, 653-131, Circle Insignia.
